James Pensel

James Pensel has extensive work experience in information security and cyber security. James has served as the Information Security Manager at the San Diego County Credit Union since May 2019, where they are responsible for maintaining a secure cyber security posture for the credit union.

Prior to this, Pensel had a long career in the US Navy, starting in 1993. Their roles in the Navy included serving as the Force Cyber Security Director/Force Information Systems Security Manager, Division Head of the N3 Department - Technical Operations, Executive Director, Combat Systems Information Officer, Information Assurance Manager, and ISSM/Division Head of the N6 Department - Communications. In these roles, they managed cyber security programs, supervised teams of IT specialists, and ensured the reliability of computer network defense systems.

Additionally, Pensel worked as a Service Chiefs Fellow at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) in 2016. During this time, they focused on leveraging cutting-edge technologies to develop future advancements in areas such as cyber security and biotech.

Overall, Pensel has a wealth of experience in information security and has held various leadership positions throughout their career.

James Pensel obtained their Master's Degree in Cyber Security/Information Assurance from National University from 2010 to 2012. Prior to that, they completed their Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology from the University of Phoenix between 2006 and 2008. Their earlier education includes an Associate's Degree in Computer Information Systems/Network and System Administration from Cuyamaca College, which they earned from 2000 to 2002. Additionally, James Pensel has obtained several certifications throughout their career, including Certified Linux Administrator (LPIC-1), Linux+, CEH, ITIL Foundation, CASP, Security+, CISSP, A+, Network+, MCP, MCSE on Windows 2000, Certified Chief Information Security Officer (CCISO), and CCNA.
