Jennie Nicholls-Smith has a diverse range of work experience. Jennie began their career as an Editorial Intern at Salt Lake City Weekly in 2008, followed by a features desk internship at Deseret News in 2009. In the same year, they also became the manager at Towne Cinemas. Jennie then served as a Technical Editor for Touchstones Literary Journal in 2010, overseeing graphic design and editing tasks.

In 2008, Jennie joined Utah Valley University, where they worked as an Editor at Large for UVU Review until 2009. Jennie was later promoted to the position of Editor-in-chief from 2009 to 2010. During their time at the university, Jennie was also involved with the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, serving as the Associate Director of Corporate Relations and Grants from 2018 to 2019.

From 2010 to 2015, Jennie worked at the Salt Lake Acting Company as the Director of Development. Their responsibilities included grant writing, relationship-building with foundations and corporations, and organizing outreach events for the community. Jennie then transitioned to UtahPresents, where they held the position of Associate Director of Development from 2015 to 2018.

In 2014, Jennie took on a role at the University of Utah as the Annual Fund Manager and Communications Specialist until 2015. As a Graduate Teaching Fellow from 2010 to 2014, they taught Introduction to News Writing to a large number of students, instructing them on journalistic practices.

Most recently, Jennie has been working at the San Francisco AIDS Foundation since 2019. Jennie started as the Associate Director of Partnerships and was promoted to the role of Director of Partnerships in May 2022. Their end date for this position is currently unspecified.

Jennie Nicholls-Smith obtained their Bachelor of Science in Communication with a focus in Journalism from Utah Valley University, where they studied from 2006 to 2010. Subsequently, they pursued their Master of Science in Communication with a concentration in Media Studies, Communication and Social Justice at the University of Utah, where they were enrolled from 2010 to 2012.
