Brent Sikkema

Brent Sikkema is the founder and owner of the New York gallery Sikkema Jenkins & Co. An alumnus of the San Francisco Art Institute, Mr. Sikkema began his gallery work in 1971 as Director of Exhibitions at the Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester, New York. He acted as the Director of Vision Gallery in Boston from 1976 until 1980 and owner from 1980 to 1989. After moving to New York, Mr. Sikkema opened a contemporary art gallery in Soho named Wooster Gardens. The gallery continues today in Chelsea as Sikkema Jenkins & Co. SJ& Co exhibits works of art in a wide variety of media including painting, drawing, installation, photography, video and sculpture. In addition, it also publishes limited edition prints, books, and multiples. The gallery’s program includes important established artists such as Arturo Herrera, Vik Muniz, Shahzia Sikander, and Trisha Brown. In addition, the gallery seeks to support the careers of emerging talent such as Josephine Halvorson, Elizabeth Neel, and Leslie Hewitt.
