Mitzy Medina

Mitzy De La Peña Medina has over a decade of experience in national government relations and public policy, both in the public and private sectors, with expertise in communication strategies to drive civic engagement, campaign work, and political organizing. Mitzy has held leadership positions in the life science industry for the past two years. Currently, Mitzy is a Director of Local Government for a global biotech company, where she leads external engagements with elected officials

and philanthropy efforts in support of community-based organizations to strengthen the student-to-STEM workforce pipeline, predominately in underserved communities. In 2021, she was appointed to the Alameda County Public Health Commission and less than a year later was elected as vice chair by her peers.

Previously, she worked for the County of San Mateo, where she supported the Board of Supervisors in Census efforts, the immigrant services program, and community engagement initiatives in unincorporated areas. One of the most notable outreach projects she led was the “Mask Mobile,” a COVID-19 grassroots effort that distributed over 17,000 face masks countywide and provided multilingual educational material that included information about where to get Covid testing to residents. The Mask Mobile and its innovative outreach technique and success in reaching vulnerable communities was featured in news outlets like Kron 4, Telemundo, NBC, and the L.A. Times.
