Matija Cale has a diverse work experience in the healthcare industry. Matija began their career as an RN at UCLA Medical Center from 2001 to 2003. Matija then worked at Brigham and Women's Hospital as an Emergency Room RN on a per diem basis from 2004 to 2005. In 2005, Matija served as an Administrative Fellow at NORTH SHORE LIJ Health System, where they developed a business plan for a wound care/hyperbaric center and worked on the development of the "Patient Safety Institute." From 2006 to 2007, they worked as an Associate at KPMG. Matija gained experience as an Emergency Room RN at St. Vincent's Medical Center from 2007 to 2008. Matija also worked as a Travel Nurse in the Emergency Department at John Muir Medical Center and Highland Hospital in 2008. In 2009, they served as an Emergency Room RN at San Francisco General Hospital. From 2011 to 2012, Matija worked as a Patient Care Coordinator at Kaiser Permanente. Matija then joined the San Francisco Health Plan, first as an Inpatient UM Manager from 2012 to 2016, then as a Senior Manager in Concurrent Review from 2016 to 2017, and finally as the Director of Clinical Operations from 2017 to the present.

Matija Cale completed a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from the University of Pennsylvania between 1996 and 2000. Subsequently, they pursued a Master's degree in Health Policy and Management from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, attending from 2003 to 2005.
