Nate Birnbaum is a seasoned professional in youth sports management and coaching, currently serving as the Youth Sports Coordinator for the San Francisco Recreation & Park Department since January 2015. In this role, Nate directs the Jose Coronado Futsal League, the largest youth futsal league in the United States, and contributes to the SF Youth Baseball League Board of Directors. Additionally, Nate operates a consulting business focused on youth baseball and golf coaching, assisting parents and children in navigating sports experiences. Previous roles include assistant varsity baseball coach at The Bay School of San Francisco, volunteer baseball coach for San Francisco RBI, and president of Hi-Five Sports Clubs, where Nate played a pivotal role in expanding community sports programs. With a background in golf instruction and a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from the University of Iowa, Nate brings a wealth of experience in both athletics and business management to the field of youth sports.

The San Francisco Recreation and Park Department’s Mission is to provide enriching recreational activities, maintain beautiful parks and preserve the environment for the well-being of everyone in our diverse community. The San Francisco Recreation and Park Department administers more than 220 parks, playgrounds, and open spaces, including two outside the city limits-- Camp Mather in Yosemite Valley and Sharp Park in Pacifica, Calif. Our park system includes 25 recreation centers, nine swimming pools, five golf courses and numerous tennis courts, ball diamonds, soccer fields and other sports venues. Included in the department’s responsibilities are the Marina Yacht Harbor, the San Francisco Zoo, and Lake Merced. Our staff members are diverse, committed and talented recreation and park professionals, from gardeners, foresters, and recreation leaders to park patrol officers, custodians, electricians, painters, and more.
