Tara Moriarty is an accomplished communication professional with extensive experience in journalism and media relations. Currently serving as the Director at the San Francisco Sheriff's Office since February 2022, Tara also functions as the Press Secretary for London Breed's mayoral campaign, managing media inquiries. Prior experience includes roles as Internal Communications Manager at San Francisco International Airport, and Reporter positions at various television networks, including Ktvu Television Fox 2, where Tara was part of an Emmy-award winning team. Educationally, Tara holds a Bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature from UCLA and a Master's degree in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia, graduating Cum Laude.

Led by elected Sheriff Paul Miyamoto, the San Francisco Sheriff’s Office serves the people of San Francisco by maintaining and operating county jails, providing law enforcement services and patrol for high-profile public buildings, and performing civil court orders on behalf of plaintiffs. The Sheriff’s Office transports all voted ballots to a central counting location and protects the voting process. Its elite and voluntary Emergency Services Unit trains for and responds to requests for local, regional, and state assistance. The Sheriff’s Office employs approximately 860 peace officers and almost 200 non-sworn staff and has been an effective, integral part of civil and criminal law enforcement since 1850.
