Robert M. Underwood

Robert M. Underwood, MD, MHCDS, CPE, currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer at San Juan Regional Medical Center since December 2017. Prior to this role, Underwood held the position of Chief Medical Officer at Centura Health from September 2015 to August 2017 and served as Chief Medical Information Officer at Sentara Healthcare from March 2008 to September 2015, where responsibilities included developing medical IT strategy and overseeing the implementation of EMR applications. Underwood has extensive military experience, having retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the South Carolina Army National Guard, and has held various leadership roles in emergency medicine and medical record supervision. Educational credentials include a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Management from the United States Military Academy at West Point, a Doctor of Medicine from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, and a Master's Degree in Health Care Delivery Science from Dartmouth College.
