Andy Johnsen

Andy Johnsen, Ed.D., currently serves as the Superintendent of the San Marcos Unified School District since July 2021 and has also been an Executive Coach and Presenter with The Breakthrough Coach since November 2013, specializing in leadership coaching for educational administrators. Previously, Andy held the position of Superintendent at Lakeside Union School District from September 2017 to July 2021, where efforts focused on rebuilding trust within the community. As Assistant Superintendent at Lakeside Union School District from July 2015 to June 2017, Andy ensured a high-quality K-8 experience for students. Prior experience includes serving as Principal at Valley Elementary School in Poway Unified School District and in leadership roles at Los Angeles Unified School District, where Andy directed charter schools oversight and increased academic performance at Santa Monica Blvd. Community Charter School. Andy holds a Doctor of Education degree from UCLA, a Master of Science in Educational Administration from Pepperdine University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication and Rhetoric from California State University, Long Beach.
