San Mateo County Sustainability Department
Avana A. Andrade serves as the Senior Sustainability Coordinator at the Office of Sustainability, County of San Mateo, since June 2016, leading the Regionally Integrated Climate Action Planning Support (RICAPS) program that aids 20 jurisdictions in climate action planning. Previously, Andrade held roles as Sustainability Specialist focusing on community climate action plans and as a Sustainability Management Fellow conducting sea level rise vulnerability analyses. Andrade's board membership with the Northern Rockies Conservation Cooperative and experience as Co-Producer for Habitations Podcast at SAGE Magazine reflect a commitment to environmental advocacy. Andrade's background includes environmental policy research at Yale Center for Environmental Law and Policy, internships with various environmental organizations, and a solid educational foundation with a Master of Environmental Management from Yale and a degree in Western European History and International Studies from Colorado State University.

The San Mateo County Sustainability Department strives to improve the sustainability of the County’s operations and the greater community through work that is designed to bring solutions today while solving for tomorrow. The Sustainability Department has programs to help the county fight and prepare for climate change, ensure clean energy, water, and air, conserve resources for future generations through waste reduction, and support livable communities with affordable housing and infrastructure for biking, walking, and public transit.
