George Hartzell

George Hartzell has an extensive work experience spanning over several companies and roles. George currently holds the position of Senior Director, Computational Engineering at Sana Biotechnology, Inc. Since joining in 2020. Prior to this, they were a Consultant at Audentes Therapeutics from 2018 to 2019. George also worked at Roche as a Sr NGS Development Architect - Contractor from 2016 to 2017. George has experience at Genentech as a Consultant from 2013 to 2015. George held multiple roles at Genentech, including Principal Computational Biologist from 2010 to 2012 and Principal Programmer Analyst from 2009 to 2010. Before that, they founded their own company, GH, LLC, where they worked as a Principal from 2005 to 2009. George also served as a Scientific Programmer at the University of California, Berkeley from 2002 to 2005. George held the position of VP of Engineering at Atlantes Services, Inc from 1999 to 2001. Furthermore, they worked at Microsoft as a Senior Server Engineer from 1997 to 1999 and at WebTV Networks as a Senior Server Engineer from 1996 to 1997.

George Hartzell received a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Biology from Swarthmore College in 1984. George then pursued a Master of Science (MS) degree in Computer Science at the University of Colorado Boulder, completing it in 1989. Later, George obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley in 2001. Additionally, they also attained a Master's degree in Computer Science from the University of Colorado Boulder.
