Claire Anderson

US Faculty & US History Department Head at Sandy Spring Friends School

Claire Anderson is an experienced educator currently serving as the Department Head for History & Social Studies at Sandy Spring Friends School since August 2015. Previously, Claire held the position of Department Chair for English Language Learning at E.L. Haynes Public Charter School from July 2012 to July 2015 and worked as a Curriculum Specialist and Lead Teacher at The Next Step Public Charter School from 2003 to 2012. Earlier in their career, Claire served as a Teacher for ESL and Technology at Roosevelt High School within DC Public Schools from 1999 to 2003, where responsibilities included Bilingual Service Provider and WIDA testing coordination. Claire is pursuing a Master of Arts in American History at Gettysburg College from January 2023 to December 2025 and holds a Master's degree in Teaching English as a Second or Foreign Language/ESL Language Instruction from American University, as well as a Bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature with a focus on Fine Arts (Music) from Loyola University Maryland.
