Nick Smith has extensive law enforcement experience, currently serving as a Police Sergeant in the Technology Unit with Sandy Springs Police since July 2006. Throughout a distinguished career at Sandy Springs, Nick Smith has held various roles including Sergeant for K9 and Bicycle Units, as well as Background and Recruiting Officer. Prior to this, Nick Smith worked as a Detective and Senior Police Officer at Fulton County Police Department from May 2003 to July 2006, and began the career as a Police Officer with Atlanta Police Department from March 2000 to May 2003. Educational credentials include a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice/Police Science from SUNY Brockport and a Regents Degree in General Studies from Webster High School.
Sandy Springs Police
The Sandy Springs Police Department (SSPD) was created in 2006 and serves the community with 148 sworn officers. Sandy Springs Police Department Operations are coordinated by two districts: North and South. The districts are commanded by the patrol Captain who is supported by Lieutenants. The patrol division is complemented by specialty units including Street Crimes Unit (SCU), Traffic Unit, Special Investigations Unit (SIU), and the Criminal Investigations Division (CID). The SSPD has several specialty vehicles and equipment including the river response boat, Rhino ATV units, river kayaks, and an armored vehicle for tactical response.
