William Smith possesses extensive experience in law enforcement, currently serving as a Law Enforcement Officer with Sandy Springs Police since October 2010. Prior to this role, William worked at East Point Police Department as a Police Officer from February 2007 to July 2010 and served as a Police Officer at Plantation Police Department from January 2000 to January 2007. William's career in corrections began at South Florida Reception Center, where responsibilities as a Correction Officer were held from February 1995 to January 2000. Additionally, William holds a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice and Corrections from Columbia Southern University and studied at the University of Phoenix between 2005 and 2007.

The Sandy Springs Police Department (SSPD) was created in 2006 and serves the community with 148 sworn officers. Sandy Springs Police Department Operations are coordinated by two districts: North and South. The districts are commanded by the patrol Captain who is supported by Lieutenants. The patrol division is complemented by specialty units including Street Crimes Unit (SCU), Traffic Unit, Special Investigations Unit (SIU), and the Criminal Investigations Division (CID). The SSPD has several specialty vehicles and equipment including the river response boat, Rhino ATV units, river kayaks, and an armored vehicle for tactical response.
