Katya Marchetti is a PhD student in the Ocorr Lab at Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute, focusing on the genetic mechanisms involved in heart development and congenital heart disease using fruit flies and zebrafish models. Katya serves as a Graduate Student Representative on the Education & Training Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, promoting inclusive practices within education programs. As a CIRMS-SPARK Mentor, Katya supports high school students from underrepresented backgrounds in STEM. Additionally, Katya has held positions such as Laboratory Assistant and Biomedical Research Intern at the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine, investigating Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. Educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Neurobiology from the University of California, San Diego, and ongoing doctoral studies in Biomedical Sciences at Sanford Burnham Prebys.
