Kelly Kersten is an Assistant Professor at Sanford Burnham Prebys since January 2024, leading research in immune cell interactions within the tumor microenvironment. Previously, Kelly served as an Associate Specialist at the University of California, San Francisco, and a Postdoctoral Scholar at UCSF Medical Center, where a significant discovery regarding tumor-associated macrophages and exhausted T cells was made. Kelly's doctoral training at The Netherlands Cancer Institute focused on breast cancer metastasis and therapy responsiveness under Dr. Karin de Visser. Earlier experiences include internships and project assistance in various labs, along with academic roles, complementing a strong educational background with an MSc and BSc in Biomedical Sciences and Biology from Utrecht University.
