Jeremy Cauwels

Chief Physician at Sanford Health

Jeremy Cauwels, MD, serves as chief physician for Sanford Health and is responsible for clinical and administrative leadership for the organization’s physicians. He also chairs the quality cabinet, working with its members to achieve high-quality, low-cost care across the Sanford Health footprint.

A hospitalist by training, Cauwels been with Sanford Health for 14 years, since the time he completed his residency. During his tenure with the organization, he has served as Sanford USD Medical Center’s hospitalist group director and chief of staff and held membership and leadership positions on numerous committees and professional organizations related to internal medicine and quality. Most recently, he held dual roles as senior vice president of clinic quality for Sanford Health and vice president and medical officer for Sanford Health Plan.

Cauwels completed his undergraduate work at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, receiving degrees in chemistry and biology. He then attended medical school at the University of Iowa and completed his residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

A native of Viborg, South Dakota, Cauwels and his wife, Teresa, live in Sioux Falls with their three children.
