Police Chief at Sanford Police Department

Cecil Smith has extensive experience in law enforcement, with their most recent position being Chief of Police at the Sanford Police Department since 2013. Prior to that, they served as Deputy Chief of Police at the Elgin Police Department for 25 years, from 1988 to 2013. Before their career in local law enforcement, they were a First Sergeant in the USAF/Air National Guard from 1983 to 2008.

Cecil Smith has a diverse education history. In 2008, they attended the FBI National Academy #234, where they focused on Law Enforcement Administration. Prior to that, from 2006 to 2008, they studied Criminal Justice at Columbia College and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree. In 2004, Cecil attended Northwestern University for a brief period to study Police Staff and Command #204. Their earlier education includes attending Western Illinois University from 1981 to 1982 and the University of Dubuque from 1979 to 1981. Lastly, Cecil graduated from WESTINGHOUSE COLLEGE PREP in 1979, where they earned their High School Diploma with a specialization in Automobile/Automotive Mechanics Technology/Technician.
