Chief Information Security Officer (ciso) at Sanlam

Chris Vermeulen started their work experience in 2000 as an Information Security Officer at BOE Bank. From 2003 to 2005, they worked as the Manager Card Fast Cycle Innovation at Nedbank. In 2005, they joined Capitec Bank as an Information Security and IT Risk Manager, where they established the IT Risk Management function and ISMS. In 2014, Chris became the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at Sanlam, where they developed and enhanced frameworks, charters, policies, and strategies for information and cybersecurity.

Chris Vermeulen has a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Physics from Stellenbosch University and a Bachelor's degree in Education from the same university. Chris also holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in Business Administration and Management, General from the University of Cape Town. In terms of certifications, Chris has obtained the Certified Data Privacy Solutions Engineer (CDPSE) certification from ISACA in January 2021, the Certification in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC) from ISACA in October 2019, the Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) from ISACA in February 2019, the PECB ISO27001 Lead Implementer certification from PECB in March 2016, and the CISSP certification from (ISC)² in November 2002.
