Prior to his role as Advisor to the Board at Sannam S4 Group, Ashok Swarup was the Managing Director for Corporate Affairs & Business Development in India and leads Citi’s government relations efforts in the country. In this capacity, Ashok focused on strengthening Citi’s initiatives with key stakeholders as Citi continued to grow its franchise in India and on strategizing & facilitating the opening of new business opportunities with the Government. He lead the advocacy efforts and represented the bank in all the apex chambers of commerce.
Prior to joining Citi, Ashok served as Director, Corporate Affairs for PepsiCo India and was responsible for driving the company’s government relations and corporate social responsibility agenda, as well as articulating Pepsi’s policy on various social and legislative issues. Prior to this role, Ashok was the Country Manager of Pepsi International for Sri Lanka from early 2000 to 2003.
Before joining Pepsi, Ashok served as President of Seagram India. Ashok joined Seagram Inc as Vice – President, Sales & Marketing in 1994 as part of the start-up team and rose to the role of President. During his stint with Seagram India, he successfully guided Seagram’s entry into India, was instrumental in helping develop the national footprint for the organization, building a nationwide team of over 100 people and establishing operations.
Ashok began his career with liquor major Shaw Wallace in 1972. During his two-decade stint with Shaw Wallace, he was closely involved with the launch of some of the company’s most successful brands. He was also responsible for sales in different parts of the country, expanding and developing the network, and was general manager of sales and marketing at the time of his leaving in 1993.
Mr. Swarup has been a long term advocate of Sannam S4's business model and his support was instrumental in the successful launch of the firm's U.S. Business Center initiative.
Mr. Swarup is a graduate of St. Stephen’s College, New Delhi and holds an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) and is also an alumnus of the Columbia University, New York where he attended the Senior Executive Programme.
