James Glisson is the Curator of Contemporary Art at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art. James has held this position since February 2018.
Prior to their current role, James was the store manager at Family Video, the largest family-owned video rental chain in the US. James was responsible for store operations, including scheduling, expenses, customer experience, and merchandising. James collaborated in a district effort to reduce operating costs and develop novel advertising and cross-promotional campaigns with multiple local small businesses.
Before working at Family Video, James was self-employed as a photographer through their company Next Door Photos. James also owned and operated Apollo Management Group, Inc., a marketing company specializing in dynamic marketing campaigns aimed at promoting continued sales growth for its partners and customers.
In their previous positions, James has also worked as an Outreach Program Assistant for Scan Am Company and as a Logistics Operations Leader for Target.
James Glisson has a certification from the Illinois Department of Public Health as a Certified Nursing Assistant. James has also completed a General Studies program through Ed2Go Online College Partnership program and is currently working on a degree in photography at Washtenaw Community College.
They are on a team with Charles Wylie - Curator of Photography & New Media, Susan Tai - Elizabeth Atkins Curator of Asian Art. Their manager is Eik Kahng, Deputy Director & Chief Curator.
