David van der Merwe

David Van der Merwe is a seasoned insurance professional with extensive experience in property underwriting across various markets. Currently serving as a Senior Property Underwriter at Santam Insurance since July 2023, David previously held the position of Property Underwriter at Swiss Re, where responsibilities included facultative property underwriting in South African, Southern African, and Mauritan markets from November 2018 to July 2023. Prior to that, David worked as a Senior Underwriter at Emerald Risk Transfer (Pty) Ltd, focusing on corporate property and facultative underwriting in Asian, African, and Middle Eastern markets from April 2012 to October 2018. David's career in underwriting began at Santam Insurance in various roles from February 2000, including Insurance Underwriter and Data Capture Clerk, and further included a tenure as Senior Commercial Underwriter at Absa Insurance Company. Educationally, David holds a Licentiate degree in Insurance obtained from Millpark between January 2013 and October 2016.
