Karsten Schmidt

Karsten Schmidt is currently the CTO of AI & ML at SAP. Karsten has a long and varied history in the field of computer science, with a focus on databases and information systems. Karsten has worked as a doctoral candidate at the University of Kaiserslautern, as well as a scientific staff member researching native XML DBMSs, storage, indexing, query processing, self-tuning, and energy-efficiency. In September 2017, they became the Head of Conversational AI at the Innovation Center of SAP SE in Germany. In this role, they are responsible for research direction, NLU product architecture, product integration and future direction. Prior to their work at SAP, Karsten was a developer and IT architect at SEGU Systemelektrik GmbH from October 2002 to June 2006.

Dr.-Ing. Karsten Schmidt is a computer scientist who studied at the University of Kaiserslautern and Ilmenau University of Technology.
