Buddhi Jayatilleke has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries and roles. Buddhi most recently worked at Sapia, starting in 2018. Buddhi held the positions of Principal Data Scientist from July 2018 to January 2022 and currently serves as the Chief Data Scientist. Prior to that, Buddhi worked at Orchestrated Systems as a Data Scientist from April 2018 to July 2018. At Orchestrated Systems, they utilized machine learning to identify issues and opportunities in digital transformation projects. Buddhi also gained experience in graph analytics and data clustering using various tools and frameworks.
In 2018, Buddhi briefly worked at Beyond Strata as the Director of Data Science from January to March. Before that, they worked at Culture Amp from September 2015 to January 2018 as the Lead Data Scientist. At Culture Amp, they played a pivotal role in developing topic and sentiment classification algorithms for text analytics features. Buddhi also worked on various data analysis and product initiatives, including text analytics, bots, and engagement score benchmarking. Buddhi extensively utilized tools such as R, Python, Deep Learning with Keras, and Tableau.
Buddhi's earlier experience includes roles at La Trobe University as a Senior Research Fellow (Data Science) from May 2015 to August 2015, Deakin University as a Senior Research Fellow (Data Science) from September 2014 to May 2015, and as an Analytics Consultant as a freelancer from January 2014 to September 2014. Buddhi also worked at Creative Search Technologies as the Director of Software Engineering from February 2007 to March 2013, driving multiple projects and managing offshore operations.
Furthermore, Buddhi worked as a Research Fellow at RMIT University from June 2010 to December 2012, where they conducted agent-based software engineering and simulation research in various domains. Prior to that, they served as a Lecturer (visiting) at the University of Moratuwa from May 2007 to July 2010, teaching courses in Software Project Management, Agent Oriented Software Engineering, and Introduction to Enterprise Search Engines.
Throughout their career, Buddhi has gained expertise in machine learning, graph analytics, text analytics, and data clustering. Buddhi has extensively used programming languages such as R, Python, Java, and various tools and frameworks including MongoDB, Elastic Search, and Tableau.
Buddhi Jayatilleke began their education at Richmond College in Galle, where they completed their Advanced Level studies with A passes for all subjects from 1980 to 1993. Buddhi then went on to attend the University of Moratuwa from 1995 to 2000, where they earned a Bachelor of Science degree (Honours, 1st Class) in Computer Science and Engineering. Following this, they pursued further education at the University of Melbourne from 2002 to 2003, obtaining a Master of Software Systems Engineering with a specialization in Computer Software Engineering. Finally, from 2003 to 2007, Jayatilleke enrolled at RMIT University, where they successfully completed their PhD in Computer Science.
