Hasmitha Rayasam has had a diverse and impressive career to date. In 2021, they began their role as a Project Scientist at Satelytics. From 2019-2021, they were a Research Assistant at Boston University, where they provided remote sensing and GIS support to a NASA ROSES-funded land cover land use change project and collected over 8000 training data points. Hasmitha also worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at Boston University, where they estimated forest area loss due to deforestation and degradation in the Amazon Rainforest by assessing and reporting disturbances in forest cover since 1995. In 2018, they were an Intern at Schlumberger, where they created depth and geological prognosis reports on Petrel for over 60 oil and gas wells. In 2017, they were an Intern at the Disaster Management Initiatives and Convergence Society (DMICS), where they analyzed disaster vulnerability and mitigation procedures in the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Hasmitha also presented a technical session on locating and rescuing users that seek help on social media during disasters at the third World Congress of Disaster Management (WCDM). In 2016, they were a Research Intern at the Indian Institute of Geomagnetism, where they studied ionospheric response to Nepal & Sumatra earthquakes using raw GPS and ground sensor data.
Hasmitha Rayasam received their Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in Geoinformatics from the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies between 2013 and 2017. Hasmitha then went on to pursue their Masters in Remote Sensing and Geospatial Sciences from Boston University between 2018 and 2019.
