Dr. Scott Hunicke-Smith has over twenty years’ experience as a technical and business leader across multiple scientific domains and types of business. As founder and CEO of capital equipment manufacturer GeneMachines (1997-2003), Scott grew the business from no revenue and two rooms in his home to over 110 employees and $11 million in annual revenue in four years by selecting and developing key leaders in sales, marketing, manufacturing and R&D. As Vice-President of Business Development at reagent manufacturer Ambion/Ambion Diagnostics (2003-2005), Scott led new business venture analysis, B2B sales, and technology transfer working with stakeholders across the organization. As Vice-President and General Manager, Asuragen Services (2005-2008), Scott led sales, operations, and development teams of a new business venture creating research laboratory services for mRNA- and microRNA-based biomarker discovery and development. As Director of Genomic Sequencing at the University of Texas at Austin (2008-2015), Scott created a Next-Generation DNA Sequencing Facility from scratch and led it to national recognition for quality, speed, and efficiency. Most recently, Scott has served as Vice President, Molecular R&D and Scientific Director within Sonic Healthcare USA divisions leading test development, project management, and data science teams driving continuous organizational improvement and test launches including BRCA gene sequencing by NGS and COVID-19 NAAT and antibody tests.
