Hiroyuki Yamada is an accomplished technology executive and researcher with extensive experience in database systems and distributed technology. Currently serving as CTO and CEO of Scalar, Inc. since February 2018, Yamada focuses on scalable Byzantine fault detection middleware, ScalarDL, and ScalarDB, a universal transaction manager for polystores. Yamada holds a visiting researcher and research fellow position at The University of Tokyo, where substantial contributions to high-performance parallel database systems have been made, achieving significant performance improvements. Additionally, as a lecturer at Keio University, Yamada teaches advanced courses in database systems. Previous roles include Chief Technology Officer at Orb, Inc., where work on decentralized transaction platforms occurred, and positions at IPA and Yahoo! JAPAN related to distributed databases and search engine development. Educational qualifications include a Ph.D. in computer science from The University of Tokyo and a Master’s degree in computer science from Keio University, along with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Sophia University.
