Chris Newell serves as the Instructor in Residence and Director of the Native American Cultural Program at the University of Connecticut, where Newell is the founding director of the program and actively collaborates with the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences to enhance the experience for Native students and establish a new Native and Indigenous Studies school. As the Co-founder and Director of Education at Akomawt Educational Initiative, Newell focuses on transforming educational narratives around Native peoples. In addition to authoring children's books for Scholastic, Newell has held leadership roles such as Executive Director at the Abbe Museum and Education Supervisor at the Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center.
