Jay Fluellen

Jay Fluellen serves as the CAPA Concert Band and Jazz Ensemble Director at The Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts, a pioneering role that leverages extensive experience as a choir director, solfeggio teacher, and professional pianist. Fluellen has a long tenure with the School District of Philadelphia, where responsibilities have included curriculum writing and music teaching across multiple grade levels, as well as directing school choirs and theater productions. In addition, Fluellen has held various academic positions, including Associate Professor in Music Theory at Morgan State University and roles as a professor at several other institutions. With a deep commitment to music composition since childhood, Fluellen's educational background includes multiple degrees in music from Temple University and music certification from Eastern University. Fluellen also directs music programs at the African Episcopal Church of St. Thomas and pursues independent work as a composer.
