Steven M. Appel

Steven M. Appel is an Associate in the IP/Data Protection practice at Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP, focusing on intellectual property, privacy, data protection, and cybersecurity. Appel serves as a Research Assistant at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, contributing to studies on artificial intelligence and machine learning under Professor Cary Coglianese and has assisted Professor Eric Feldman in creating a Global Research Seminar on robotics. As a long-time photographer and designer, Appel has also held roles in social impact initiatives, including serving as a Senior Manager at Working In Support of Education and as a Fellow at The Wharton School. Appel ran for New York State Assembly in 2016, co-founded the Center for Ethnic, Racial and Religious Understanding at Queens College, and was an award-winning Editor in Chief of The Knight News. Appel holds a JD from the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School, an MBA from Baruch College, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Cultural Anthropology from Queens College.
