Raphael Janssens

Raphael Janssens is a Data Scientist at Sciensano since February 2020, focusing on developing an early warning indicator for Covid-19 surveillance utilizing virus traces in Belgian wastewater. Prior to this role, Raphael worked as a Risk Assessor, evaluating the human health risks associated with food additives, following a PhD that assessed the environmental impact of anti-cancer drugs in water bodies. Raphael's academic background includes a Master's degree in Chemical Engineering from Université catholique de Louvain and a Master's degree earned through an Erasmus program at KU Leuven. Early career experiences include supervising tutorial sessions for undergraduate students and teaching sailing to youth during summer breaks.
