Derek Heaton

Derek Heaton is an experienced fire service professional currently serving as Area Commander at Scottish Fire and Rescue Service since May 2023. Prior to this role, Derek held the position of Group Commander from December 2019 to May 2023 and served as Station Manager and Watch Manager from January 2011 to December 2019. Earlier in his career, Derek was a Watch Commander at Strathclyde Fire & Rescue from February 2008 to January 2011, also contributing as Deputy Head of the Learning & Development section. Derek Heaton earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Health from the University of Strathclyde, where studies were completed from 1995 to 1999, and attended Park Mains High School from 1990 to 1995.
