Dimitrios Athanasiadis has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Dimitrios started their career in 2006 as an Automation Engineer Intern at Hellenic Petroleum, where they gained practical experience in the field of Automation Engineering and Technological Applications. Dimitrios then joined the UK Energy Research Centre (UKERC) in 2013 as a Sparks team committee member, where they supported interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge exchange among early career energy researchers.
In 2011, Dimitrios joined the University of Strathclyde, initially as a PhD Researcher, focusing on the development of the Autonomic Power System. Their research aimed to design a self-controlling and self-optimizing power system that exhibits stability in complex and uncertain environments. Dimitrios continued their journey at the university as a Research Assistant and later as a Research Associate, further contributing to advancements in autonomics, computer science, and artificial intelligence.
From 2019 to 2021, Dimitrios worked at Smarter Grid Solutions as a Smart Grid Consultant. In this role, they delivered a range of power systems analysis and consultancy activities for customer and partner projects. Dimitrios also played a key role in project scoping and development, proposal preparation, and the growth of team capabilities through the development of advanced analytical methods.

Dimitrios Athanasiadis has a strong background in engineering. Dimitrios earned a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree in Automation Systems from the Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki from 2002 to 2006. Dimitrios then pursued a Master of Science (MSc) in Sustainable Energy Systems at The University of Edinburgh from 2007 to 2008. Dimitrios also participated in the Erasmus Program at Universidad de Cordoba in 2005, focusing on Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Dimitrios furthered their education by completing a PhD in Engineering at the University of Strathclyde from 2011 to 2014. In addition to their academic achievements, Dimitrios obtained the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) certification from the PMI-OC Project Management Institute Orange County Chapter in May 2018.
