In these positions, they were responsible for ensuring the reliability and effectiveness of different types of manufacturing systems and developing novel reliability solutions and failure prediction strategies.

In 2016, Dr. McDonnell became a Lecturer at Technological University Dublin, where they taught relevant subjects to students. Dr. Darren then served as an Adjunct Professor at Trinity College Dublin, where they were a senior member of The Science and Technology in Advanced Manufacturing Research Group (STAM). Dr. Darren was responsible for content creation and delivery of the Advanced Manufacturing and Materials modules at MSc level in Mechanical Engineering. Additionally, they co-supervised MSc and PhD students.

In 2017, Dr. McDonnell joined DePuy Synthes as a Materials Specialist, focusing on materials-related tasks and responsibilities.

Lastly, in 2018, they became the Director of Engineering and Co-Founder at SCRI-IS Technologies. In these roles, they presumably oversee the engineering department and contributes to the overall development and operations of the company.
