Ryan Wheeler has extensive work experience in the field of career and professional development services. From 2003 to present, they have held various roles at Scripps Research, including Senior Director of Professional Development & Academic Services, Director of Career, International, and Postdoctoral Services, Director of Career and Postdoctoral Services, and Manager of the Career and Postdoctoral Services Office. In these roles, they have overseen personnel, budgets, strategy, communications, operations, and programming, collaborating with multiple departments to increase efficiency and develop new initiatives. Ryan also served as a Postdoctoral Services Coordinator and Administrative III at Scripps Research from 2003 to 2006. In 2022, they became a Fellow of the pd|hub Collections at the Professional Development Hub, where they contribute their expertise in the professional development of PhD students and postdocs. Prior to their time at Scripps Research, they worked as a Graduate Intern at the University of California San Diego Career Services Center in 2005 and as an Admissions Officer at the University of Washington from 2002 to 2003.
Ryan Wheeler earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from the University of Washington in 2002. Ryan then obtained a Master of Arts degree in Postsecondary Education Leadership from San Diego State University in 2006. In addition to their formal education, Ryan has obtained several certifications, including being certified as an MBTI Practitioner by the Center for Applications of Psychological Type in 2013, among others.
