Director Of Contract Operations And Passenger Facilities at San Diego MTS

Michael Daney has an extensive work experience in the transportation and planning industry. Michael has held various roles in different organizations throughout their career.

From 1997 to 1999, Michael worked as an Assistant Land-Development Planner at The Lightfoot Planning Group. Following that, they joined North County Transit District in 1999 as an Assistant Transportation Planner, where they provided assistance in planning studies, capital projects, and service analysis.

In 2000, Michael moved on to SANDAG as a Senior Transportation Planner, responsible for developing performance monitoring programs and policies to support regional and federal programs. Michael conducted bus and light rail service studies and made recommendations to improve service quality and efficiency.

Michael joined the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) in 2004 as a Senior Transportation Planner. One of their major milestones at MTS was their involvement in the Comprehensive Operations Analysis (COA), which resulted in the restructuring of over 90 bus routes. Michael later served as the Manager of East County Operations, where they managed the maintenance facility, private contractors, and bus stop/shelter programs.

Currently, Michael is the Director of Contract Operations and Passenger Facilities at MTS, responsible for managing BRT operations, budget, contracts, staff, service changes, and fleet management.

In addition to their work in the transportation industry, Michael has also served as a Board Member for the Nature Fund for Costa Rica from 2022 to 2023.

Michael Daney completed their Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts and Sciences, with a focus on Urban Regional Analysis/Urban Planning, at San Diego State University from 1993 to 1997. Michael then pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Business Administration and Management, General, at San Diego State University-California State University, graduating in 2005. In 2012, they attended Leadership APTA, where they completed the program in Public Transportation.
