Chief Engineer Joint Support Ship And Principal System Safety Engineer at Seaspan

Gary Beels P.Eng MSc BSc(Hons) has extensive work experience in marine engineering and system safety. Gary currently holds the position of Chief Engineer Joint Support Ship and Principal System Safety Engineer at Seaspan ULC, where they are responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the joint support ship. Prior to this, Gary held the role of Chief Engineer Offshore Oceanographic Science Vessel and Principal System Safety Engineer at Seaspan ULC. Gary also worked at Babcock Canada Inc., where they served as the Company Chief Engineer and Head of the Victoria Class Submarine Design Agency. In this role, they led all safety engineering work on Victoria Class submarines and surface ships, including conducting accident investigations and root cause analysis. Gary also has experience as a Marine Systems Engineer and Submarine Safety Manager at Babcock Canada Inc. Previously, they worked as a Marine Engineer and Health Physicist in the Royal Navy and served as an Operations Officer at UK Medical Group in Afghanistan.

Gary Beels P.Eng MSc BSc(Hons) completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science from The Open University from 1997 to 2004. Gary then pursued a Master's degree in Radiation and Environmental Protection from the University of Surrey from 2008 to 2010. Currently, they are enrolled in the MEng program at the University of Victoria, although the specific start and end dates are not provided.
