José Carlos Diaz has a diverse work experience in the field of art curation, starting as an Independent Curator/Director at Worm-Hole Laboratory in 2003. José Carlos then held roles at various institutions like Diana Lowenstein Gallery, Liverpool Biennial of Contemporary Art Ltd, and Tate before becoming the Chief Curator at The Andy Warhol Museum in 2016. José Carlos has also worked as the Curator of Exhibitions at Bass Museum of Art before transitioning to the role of Susan Brotman Deputy Director for Art at Seattle Art Museum in 2022. Throughout their career, José Carlos Diaz has demonstrated a passion for curating and organizing art exhibitions.

José Carlos Diaz obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Art History, Criticism and Conservation from San Francisco State University in 2001. José Carlos then went on to pursue a Master's degree in Cultural History at the University of Liverpool, graduating in 2011.
