Derek Bentsen

Derek Bentsen is an experienced attorney currently serving as Assistant Chief Litigation Counsel at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission since May 2014. Prior to this role, Bentsen was a partner at Kirkland & Ellis LLP from April 2011 to May 2014 and served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida from April 2008 to April 2011. Bentsen began their career as an associate at Kirkland & Ellis LLP and also gained experience as a law clerk for Judge Frank Magill at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. Bentsen's educational background includes a PG Dip. in War Studies from King's College London, a Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law, and dual bachelor's degrees in Economics and Applied & Computational Mathematical Sciences and Political Science from the University of Washington.
