Andres M Zapata-Garcia possesses a diverse range of experience in leadership, project management, and technical roles within both academic and entrepreneurial settings. Currently, as Captain of the Big Idea Challenge UPRM 2021 and Project Manager at Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS), alongside serving as an Administrator for the SEDS Leadership Academy, Andres demonstrates strong organizational skills and dedication to space exploration initiatives. As the owner of a small business, Great Gardener P.R., and a Student Counselor at the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez, Andres balances entrepreneurial pursuits with academic mentorship. Previous roles include positions as Constructor Assistant at FJA Contractor, Project Leader at SEDS, and participation in the Life Support Team for NASA RASC-AL. Andres holds a degree in Chemical Engineering from the Universidad de Puerto Rico, complemented by training at the World Training Academy.

Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS)

SEDS-USA is a non-profit organization that supports young people to participate and make an impact in space exploration. It helps students develop their technical and leadership skills by providing opportunities to manage and participate in national projects as well as to attend conferences, publish their work, and develop their professionalnetwork, in order to help students become effective in their present and future careers in industry, academia, government, and education.SEDS-USA is a student-run space organization that consists of an international community of high school, undergraduate, and graduate students from a diverse range of educational backgrounds in chapters all over the world, including Canada, India, Israel, Mexico, Nepal, Nigeria, Philippines, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The organization was founded in 1980 at MIT by Peter Diamandis, at Princeton University by Scott Scharfman, and at Yale University by Richard Sorkin. It is headquartered in Amherst, N.Y.
