Pierre Canisius Mbarushimana, PhD

Sr. Field Applications Scientist at Seer

Pierre Canisius Mbarushimana, PhD has a diverse work experience spanning various roles in different industries. Currently, they are a Sr. Field Applications Scientist at Seer since July 2022. Before that, they worked as an Applications Scientist at Bruker Daltonics from November 2019 to July 2022.

Prior to joining Bruker Daltonics, Pierre worked as a Senior Analytical Chemist at Jordi Labs from September 2018 to October 2019. In this role, they completed over 250 projects in pharmaceutical lab testing, Extractables and Leachables (E&L) studies, polymer analysis, and failure analysis. Pierre Canisius was responsible for method development, data interpretation, and report writing. Their work included qualitative and quantitative analytical methods development and analysis of compounds in complex matrices, such as drugs, pharmaceutical products, packages, medical devices, and biological samples.

Pierre also has experience as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and a Graduate Research Assistant at The University of Alabama. As a Graduate Teaching Assistant from June 2013 to the present, they prepared and taught weekly general chemistry labs and managed laboratory safety. As a Graduate Research Assistant from 2013 to the present, they developed and published a novel synthesis route to linear polyethyleneimines (PEIs), which are used in gene delivery and carbon dioxide capture. Pierre Canisius also developed alternative synthetic routes to linear PEI via anionic polymerization of aziridine monomers.

In addition, Pierre has worked as a Research Assistant at FDA for a brief period in 2012, and as a Tutor & Mentor for the Apple Project at Lyon College from January 2010 to May 2012. Pierre Canisius served as a Math and Chemistry Tutor and a Research Assistant at Lyon College from January 2010 to May 2012. Furthermore, they gained experience as a Statistical Analyst at the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda from January 2008 to April 2009.

Pierre Canisius Mbarushimana, PhD, began their education journey in 2005 at Groupe Scolaire Saint Joseph de Kabgayi, where they completed their high school education with a focus on Mathematics and Physics in 2007. In 2008, they pursued an Associate's Degree in Civil Engineering at the Kigali Institute of Technology, which they completed in 2009.

Motivated by their interest in Chemistry, Pierre then attended Lyon College from 2009 to 2013, where they earned their Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Chemistry. During their time at Lyon College, they strengthened their knowledge and skills in the field.

In 2012, Pierre briefly studied at Université de Poitiers, where they obtained an Associate's Degree in Chemistry before transferring to another institution. This academic experience provided him with additional knowledge and expertise in their chosen field.

Eventually, Pierre pursued further academic development and enrolled at the University of Alabama in 2013. Over the course of five years, they dedicated himself to the study of Analytical Chemistry and successfully completed their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Analytical Chemistry in 2018.

Pierre Canisius Mbarushimana, PhD, has acquired a strong educational foundation through their diverse academic experiences, culminating in their PhD in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Alabama.
