Ray Schmidt

Vp, Product Development at Seer

Ray Schmidt has extensive work experience in the field of ingestible sensor engineering and technology. Ray most recently served as the Senior Director of Systems Integration at Seer, a position they have held since July 2021. Before that, from July 2020 to July 2021, they were the Senior Director of Systems Engineering at Talis Biomedical Corporation.

However, their most notable role was at Proteus Digital Health, Inc, where they worked from 2009 to 2020. During their time there, they held multiple positions of increasing responsibility. Ray started as a R&D contractor, performing failure analysis on novel coatings for the protection of implantable circuits and developing custom data analysis scripts. Ray then moved up to become a Pharma R&D Scientist, where they designed and developed novel polymer coatings and films for ingestible sensors and performed preclinical in vivo studies.

Ray quickly progressed through the ranks at Proteus Digital Health and eventually became the Senior Director of Ingestible Sensor Engineering, Analytics, and Algorithms. In this role, they grew, developed, and led a highly motivated and technically proficient cross-functional team responsible for all aspects of the development and improvement of a novel ingestible sensor. Ray oversaw circuit design, materials selection, process optimization, specification setting, test method development, and shelf-life studies. Ray also executed clinical studies to demonstrate in vivo performance and developed a validated data analytics backend to process the data.

Overall, Ray Schmidt has a successful track record in the field of ingestible sensor technology and has demonstrated strong leadership and technical expertise throughout their career.

Ray Schmidt completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 2000 to 2003. Prior to that, from 1998 to 2000, they studied Biomedical Engineering at Boston University. Ray Schmidt went on to pursue a PhD in Bioengineering at the University of California, Berkeley from 2003 to 2010.
