David Burns is a seasoned technology leader with extensive experience in developer advocacy, open source initiatives, and test automation. Currently serving as Head of Developer Advocacy and Open Source at BrowserStack, David leads the direction and development of key open source projects. As an Invited Expert and Chair for the Browser Testing and Tools Working Group at W3C, David coordinates the creation of WebDriver specifications. With a long-standing role as a Core Committer for Selenium, David is a significant contributor to the project, particularly in Python bindings. Previous positions include Engineering Manager at Mozilla and Lead Test Engineer at smartFOCUS. David holds a BSC in IT from the University of Johannesburg and is pursuing a BA (HONS) in Business Studies with ICT from The Open University.

Selenium automates browsers. That's it! What you do with that power is entirely up to you. Primarily, it is for automating web applications for testing purposes, but is certainly not limited to just that. Boring web-based administration tasks can (and should!) also be automated as well.
