Zafirah Azween

Deputy Head of Protein Production at Sengenics

Zafirah Azween has a diverse work experience in the field of biotechnology. Zafirah started their career as an Internship Trainee at Hospital Serdang in 2006, where they conducted routine haematology, urinology, and microbiology analysis. From 2007 to 2008, they worked as a Research Assistant at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Zafirah then joined Inno Biologics Sdn Bhd in 2010 and held various positions, including Research Assistant, Research Scientist, and Senior Research Scientist. Zafirah'swork at Inno Biologics involved the development of monoclonal antibodies and infection screening kits.

In 2016, Zafirah joined the National Institutes of Biotechnology Malaysia (NIBM) as a Researcher, where they worked until 2017. Zafirah then moved to sengenics in 2017, initially as a Senior Laboratory Molecular Biologist. Later, they held the position of Senior Proteomics Scientist before assuming the role of Deputy Head of Protein Production in 2019.

Throughout their career, Zafirah demonstrated expertise in various techniques and methodologies related to protein production, molecular biology, cell culture, and antibody development. Zafirah has also been involved in collaborative projects with other organizations and has experience in writing research proposals and grant applications.

Zafirah Azween started their education journey in 2004 at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Genetics. Zafirah successfully completed their undergraduate degree in 2007. After that, they continued their academic pursuits and enrolled in the same university for a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Molecular Biology. Zafirah's master's degree covered the period from 2008 to 2014.
