Irek Karkowski

CTO at Sensara

Irek Karkowski is the current Chief Technology Officer at Sensara. Irek has previous experience as the CTO at Dutch Domotics and as a European Project Manager for the Ambient Assisted Living projects "Happy Walker" and "ROSETTA".

Irek studied Information Technology at the Warsaw University of Technology, graduating in 2004. Irek then worked as a software engineer and project manager for various companies in Poland, the Netherlands, and Germany before taking on the role of CTO at Dutch Domotics in 2012.

Under Irek's leadership, Dutch Domotics became one of the leading companies in the development of home automation systems. In 2014, they left Dutch Domotics to join Sensara, where they are now responsible for the development of their smart home platform.

Irek is a recognised expert in the field of ambient assisted living and has been involved in several European research projects in this area. Irek was the project manager for the "Happy Walker" project, which developed mobile services to encourage active living for elderly people, and the "ROSETTA" project, which developed technology to help people with dementia and Parkinson's disease live independently for longer.

Both projects were very successful, with "ROSETTA" being recognised as one of the most successful projects by the AAL Association. Irek has also been interviewed about their work on these projects by Euronews.

Irek Karkowski has a PhD in Electronics from Technische Universiteit Delft and a Master of Science (MSc) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Technical University of Gdansk.

Their manager is Rutger Wichers, CEO. They are on a team with Hüseyin Tekis - Head of Finance, Reinier Koeleman - Business Development, and Irene Lunter - Care Consultant. Some direct reports include Ghazi Sablouh - Service & Supply Chain Engineer, Rob Van Kol - Senior Service Engineer, and Jesse Van Noort - Service Engineer.
