Sensirion
Filippos Kapsalidis has a diverse range of work experience in the fields of R&D, engineering, and research. Filippos is currently working as an R&D MEMS Process Engineer at Sensirion since 2022. Prior to this, they were a Postdoctoral Researcher and a PhD Research Assistant at the Quantum Optoelectronics Group at ETH Zurich from 2016 to 2022. In these roles, they focused on the design, simulation, fabrication, and characterization of high-performance mid-infrared quantum cascade lasers. Filippos also served as a fabrication mentor and equipment responsible at the FIRST - Center for Micro- and Nanoscience.
Before joining ETH Zurich, Filippos gained industry experience as a Research And Development Intern at the Sensors Technologies group of ABB in 2015. Their work there involved the development of a quality control system for the paper industry using terahertz (THz) radiation. Filippos also conducted ray tracing simulations for optimizing the measurement setup using ZEMAX.
During their master's studies, Filippos worked as a Master Student at the Ultrafast Dynamics Group at the Institute of Quantum Electronics, ETH Zurich. Their responsibilities included the development of a gas-based terahertz time-domain spectrometer and the generation of THz radiation through nonlinear interaction of a two-color laser field.
Filippos began their research career as an Undergraduate Student Researcher at the Laser, Nonlinear and Quantum Optics Laboratory (LNLQO Lab) at the University of Patras. Their work involved studies of laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) and the implementation of this technique for flame mapping, combustion dynamics studies, and diagnostic purposes.
Overall, Filippos Kapsalidis has a strong background in optical engineering, photonics, and laser technologies, with experience in both industry and academic research settings.
Filippos Kapsalidis completed their Bachelor's degree in Physics from the University of Patras from 2008 to 2012. Filippos then pursued further education and obtained a Master of Science (MSc) in Physics from ETH Zürich between the years 2013 and 2015.
