Heather Byers

Heather Byers is a Senior Medical Director at Septerna since June 2025, focusing on developing oral small molecule therapies for endocrinology, immunology, inflammation, and metabolic diseases. Prior to this, Heather served as Senior Medical Director at Ultragenyx from January 2022 to May 2025, leading the setrusumab program aimed at improving fracture rates in children and young adults with osteogenesis imperfecta. Additionally, Heather held roles such as Clinical Adjunct Assistant Professor at Stanford University and Medical Director at BridgeBio. Heather's experience also includes leadership positions at Stanford Medicine Children's Health, where responsibilities included oversight of a multi-disciplinary clinic and serving as a Medical Geneticist. Heather completed medical education at the University of Iowa and obtained a BA in Economics from the University of Virginia. Further training was pursued through residencies and fellowships in Human/Medical Genetics at the University of Washington.
