Nawal Catherine Schmitz

Nawal Catherine Schmitz has a diverse work experience in various organizations. Nawal Catherine started their career in 2013 as a Community Development Worker in a voluntary development service program. Nawal Catherine gained knowledge in life strategies in deprived areas and assisted in school administration and various projects. In 2014, they worked as a Program Management & Evaluation Intern at Kenyatta University, where they supported recruitment strategies and monitored project implementation.

Nawal Catherine then worked as an Intern at the Cairo Office of the German Development Bank in 2017. In 2018, they were a Second Committee Trainee at the European External Action Service, focusing on development and economics. Nawal Catherine also worked as a Consultant and Carlo-Schmid Fellow at the International Trade Centre, where they conducted various tasks related to their role.

In 2019, they interned at the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, focusing on trade and investment for sustainable development. Their most recent position is as a Project Director at sequa gGmbH, where they currently work. Prior to this position, they served as the Finance Coordinator at SciencesPo Refugee Help, managing budgets, implementing cost-efficiency strategies, and coordinating funding teams.

During their undergraduate studies, they also participated in an exchange program at Université Paris Dauphine - PSL in 2015. Additionally, they attended a summer school on International Migration at the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice in the same year.

After completing their Bachelor's degree, Nawal Catherine Schmitz continued their education by earning a Master's degree in International Development at Sciences Po from 2016 to 2018. During their time as a student, they also obtained a certification in "How to Analyse Trade Flows" from the ITC SME Trade Academy in November 2018.

In 2014, they participated in seminars as part of a long-term developmental voluntary service through the Weltwärts program, BMZ, IJGD & CIVS to gain experience in intercultural engagement. Additionally, in 2010, they had an exchange study experience at Miami State High School in Australia during their high school years.
