Frederic B. Luddy

Founder & Board Member at ServiceNow

Fred Luddy founded ServiceNow, the intelligent platform for end-to-end digital transformation, in 2004. Since then, ServiceNow has become the fastest-growing enterprise software company to reach $7+ billion in annual revenue organically.

Fred credits inspiration for ServiceNow to his job as a computer programmer for Modernfold Doors, a division of American Standard, when he was 17 years old. There, he created an automated order entry system for a co-worker who was discouraged by having to manually enter the same order information into multiple screens. Fred’s original goal for ServiceNow — using technology to simplify work experiences for regular people — remains the company’s aspiration today.

Throughout his nearly 20-year tenure, Fred has served in a variety of leadership roles at ServiceNow, including CEO from 2004 to 2011. After ServiceNow transitioned to its first non-founder CEO in 2011, Fred focused on product development and then moved to an advisory role in 2016. He has served on the Board of Directors since 2004, including as Chairman from 2018 to 2022.

Fred attended Indiana University, but left before graduating to spend more time programming. He previously worked at Amdahl Corporation, co-founded Enterprise Software, and served as chief technology officer of Peregrine Systems before founding ServiceNow.

Today, Fred remains a technology visionary, programming as often as possible and working on software to revolutionize the spreadsheet and more effectively diagnose and treat rare genetic diseases in children. He is also a dedicated philanthropist, supporting Indiana University through the construction and expansion of the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering, and many other worthy causes.
