She has been an adjunct professor at the Legal Aid Clinic of the University of Puerto Rico School of Law for ten years. She earned her Juris Doctor from her de ella at the University of Puerto Rico, a master's degree in education from New York University, and a master's degree in environmental law from Vermont Law School. She worked at the Electric Power Authority for 31 years. At the date of her retirement from her, she held the position of Director of Human Resources and she performed the functions of Corporate Secretary of the Governing Board ad-honor.
Since 2005, Ms. Hernández Torrales has worked as a volunteer in the development of the Caño Martín Peña Land Trust. For fourteen years he has collaborated with the Caño Martín Peña ENLACE Project Corporation and for ten years he chaired the Board of Trustees of the Caño Martín Peña Land Trust, a period in which the Trust has been recognized worldwide as a project worthy of being emulated by communities in poverty. From the Community Economic Development Clinic of the Legal Assistance Clinic of the University of Puerto Rico, Ms. Hernández Torrales, together with her students de ella, works with other economically poor communities advising and legally representing them in matters related to community economic development,
She was nominated by the University of Puerto Rico to the Legal Services Board of Directors in 2016.
